Integrity as a way of being

What is integrity? Why is it important or is it an old fashioned quality no longer of value? Integrity means: the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles or the state of being whole and undivided.

When we stand in integrity we stand in the whole of ourselves, body, mind and Spirit, having strong moral principles.

When others expect us to step outside of our own integrity to help them achieve something we may feel torn between wanting to help them and compromising something within. However, compromising our own integrity to help others achieves nothing for either. Firstly we’re saying our principles are flexible – and if they are, why do we have them? Secondly, we’re teaching them that they are above our principles, which does not help them to learn and be at one with others.

When we walk a spiritual path, integrity is one of the foremost qualities to develop. It is what will pull us through when we are faced with challenges about where we stand and what we stand for.
