Are You Genuinely Being You?

I read a quote the other day that stayed with me. Be yourself, everybody else, is already taken. And it made me stop and think, when we’re not ourselves, when we’re trying to be somebody else, it’s someone we admire, or someone we think we should be like for whatever reason. Or someone that people close to us feel is our best self. And so we’re standing outside of who we are. We’re not being ourself. Equally, we’re not being somebody else because we can’t be them.

If we want to enjoy being just who we be, then it’s about letting go of the need to follow other people. It’s about being willing to see who we are. Sometimes we don’t know. To see who we are, to explore what’s possible. And one way to begin to understand who you really are, is to ask yourself when you feel the most alive. Because when we feel the most alive, that’s our true self flowing through us. And often it’s magical or it’s exciting, there’s synchronicity. Energy flows and it’s beautiful.

And when we’re being ourselves by doing things that make us feel alive, we’re actually on the way home to permanently being who we be. It’s a journey that no one else can teach us and no one else can walk for us. And that’s what’s so exciting about it, because it offers opportunities, gifts – and it offers challenges.

Coming home to self is about being willing to discover what’s possible with who we are. And when we’re on our journey, our Spiritual Journey, there’s an old saying, if it’s to be, it begins with me. If I don’t know who I be, then I have no starting point for my journey. If I know who I be, even if it’s wrong, I’m starting with a concept that as I walk further into an understanding of myself, gives clues. It gives me tips, tricks, opportunities.

So I’m inviting you to stop and ask yourself, are you genuinely being you? Is there a part of you that’s trying to be what you believe other people expect you to be or want you to be? And yet, it doesn’t make you feel alive.

Pay attention to what does. It’s an amazing journey.
